An appeal to fund Poynton High School’s new minibus has moved a significant step closer to completion with a donation from Poynton Rotary Club.

Poynton and District Rotary Club President Geoff Hague and Barbara Ashton, Chair of Youth and Community, came in to the school recently to present Head Teacher David Waugh and Business, Community and Finance Director Nicki Cooper with a £500 cheque and to find out more about the schools plans for when the new vehicle arrives in the next few weeks.

David Waugh commented “The Rotary Club is very much about supporting the local community and we are delighted with this contribution which brings us a step closer to raising the full amount needed. A minibus is crucial to the work of the school and every single penny received has been a boost for the appeal, which has rapidly climbed towards our target.”

The school’s appeal has raised over £23,000 of the £25,000 needed to fund the brand new minibus. Several groups and individuals, including the school’s PTA, Poynton Round Table, The Lady Warren Bulkeley Charity and local businesses have all made important donations to the fund. The school’s PTA have also been busy selling tickets for an Easter Grand Raffle draw and more money will be raised during a production of Dorothy’s War on the 22nd April, an exciting new musical play based on the true story of Dorothy Lawrence, packed with songs from the First World War and performed by the Harmonettes. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the school and also the Civic Hall.
