The Town Council has set up a Flooding Working Group to review the response provided and resources made available by the Environment Agency and Cheshire East Council before, during and after the flooding event. The Town Council’s Flooding Working Group met for the first time on Wednesday 14th August 2019. The group consists of two Poynton Town Councillors, a Cheshire East Ward Councillor and four members of the public with expertise in civil engineering, flood risk and drainage. The Working Group are still looking for a hydrologist to work with them on a voluntary basis. Members of the Working Group attended the flood drop in event on the 15th August to gather further information and to ask questions of the agencies     responsible for managing risk in the Town.

The Working Group will also consider actions taken by Cheshire East as the Lead Local Flood Authority in relation to the 2016 floods and then consider what future action can be undertaken to limit the impact of future heavy rainfall. It will also seek to make recommendations on mitigation measures that can be implemented and work with Cheshire East, Environment Agency, United Utilities and other public or private bodies to ensure that any recommendations are undertaken in a timely manner.

The Town Council and Environment Agency are continuing to gather and collate further information on properties affected by the flood. If you were affected by the flooding in 2016 or 2019, but haven’t already done so please complete our form which can be obtained at the Civic Hall or by contacting the Clerk at haf.barlow@poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk . You should also report any floods to the Environment Agency on 0800 807060.
