Over the last couple of weeks there have been an increase in theft of vans and theft from vans nationally.
General crime prevention advice takes the form of:
-Park vans in garages or in well lit areas
-Install CCTV or park in areas covered by CCTV
-Install extra security on the van, such as steering locks, immobilisers and alarms. This can include extra security for tool storage in the rear of the van such as lock boxes.
-Limited advertising on the van, which indicates the contents
-Register tools on appropriate websites such as www.immobilise.com or the new ‘Toolwatchapp’ to aid the recovery and restoring of stolen property to owners
The immobilise register is linked to the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR) which is used by the police to trace owners of stolen property.
