Kathleen Jones is pictured recently celebrating her 100th birthday with daughters Anne and Carole. They were joined by Kathleen’s friends and staff at Clumber House Nursing Home on Dickens Lane, Poynton where she proudly displayed her telegram from the Queen.

Kathleen’s mother and grandfather came to England from Southern Ireland. She was one of eight children.

Kathleen was married to her late husband Ernie for 57 years. Ernie served in Burma during World War II and was a prolific writer. He penned beautiful letters for her and his daughters.

They were both very good ballroom dancers, had lovely singing voices and loved holidaying particularly in Spain.

Kathleen retired from her job at the University of Science and Technology in her late 60s.

Following Ernie’s death Kathleen moved from Chorlton-cum-Hardy to Marple and lived for 14 years next door to her one surviving sister Winny, who is 101.

She moved into Clumber House in 2012 where her love of music continues and she can regularly be found singing heartily.
