Poynton Rotary Club held a Family Model Rail Fun Day on Saturday 8th October at the Poynton Community Centre. The event was opened by the Town Mayor, Cllr Sandra Horsman, who was given a conducted tour around all the model layouts.

Working model train layouts were kindly provided by volunteers from the Romiley Methodist Railway Modellers and friends. The young and not so young visitors had lots of fun operating some of these systems. In addition, there was a sale of railway models, magazines and also refreshments, provided by Poynton Inner Wheel.

Other attractions were also on hand. The Anson Museum had one of their fine engines on display, the Poynton Marionettes Theatre Company provided a series of entertaining puppet shows, and Poynton’s Miniatures Club showed off their wonderful small and intricate models.

Poynton Rotary would like to thank their many visitors, as well as all the volunteer exhibitors who gave up their Saturday to make this Fun Day an undoubted success. The event raised over £400 towards the valuable work and running of the Francis House Children’s Hospice.
