Popular Southern style restaurant Hickory’s has announced plans to open in Poynton on the site for the former Vernon Arms.

Set to be the latest addition to the small, privately owned group who have been operating a cocktail bar and an award-winning steakhouse restaurant in Chester for 20 years and who opened their first Hickory’s in the city 9 years ago. The team now operate across the North West and Midlands, with the restaurant in Poynton planning to open this summer.

The new restaurant will continue the company’s commitment of bringing guests a true slice of ‘Southern Style’ hospitality. The site will undergo a refurbishment both inside and out with every aspect of the venue being redesigned and transformed. The restaurant will include a completely new, open kitchen and Chef’s bar, along with relaxed dining areas for up to 150 guests.  There will be an array of interesting features including a cosy cinema room for children and a dedicated bar area.

The outside area will also undergo a complete make-over, including a veranda and a courtyard patio seating area. The team are hoping to develop a nature trail and dipping pond on land that hasn’t been open to public to create a space for the local community to use and enjoy.

Hickory’s Smokehouse founder Neil McDonnell commented, “We are absolutely thrilled to be launching in Poynton and are really looking forward to meeting with local people and getting to know the area. South Manchester has been on our ‘wish-list’ of locations for some time so we are delighted to have acquired this site in Poynton.”

“Our sister sites across the North West have been embraced whole heartedly by the local community, so coming to Poynton is genuinely exciting for us all. Our ambition is to create something that is truly special, and we are looking forward to becoming part of the community.” Added Managing Director John Welsh.

With food and drink at the heart of the offering here, BBQ fans are well catered for with a mesmerising range of delicious classics including pulled pork, fall-off-the-bone ribs and juicy brisket, all smoked ‘low and slow’ as they say, for up to 16 hours. Add to that their impressive range of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes and indulgent Southern inspired desserts and you have the recipe for a true foodie treat to remember.

From cosy booths and a bustling chef’s bar to a super-relaxed bar area showing a range of US sports and serving a wide selection of both local cask ales, American IPA’s and an impressive choice of cocktails – there really will be something for the whole family.
