Two young friends from Poynton put their best feet forward for a fashion event to help a local charity shop launch its new clothing range in the run up to prom season.

Wilmslow High School student Jessica Waller, 16, and Chloe Watkins, 21, modelled a variety of evening dresses for the launch party at the Headway charity shop on Park Lane, which saw volunteers and customers come together for an afternoon of glamour.

The themed event was organised by Headway, a charity that supports people affected by brain injury, after shop volunteers spent months collecting a total of 90 donations of prom, bridesmaid and cocktail dresses.

Chloe Watkins, who works as a nursery nurse in Handforth, said: “Jessica and I thoroughly enjoyed the buzz of the evening.

“The aim of the launch was to attract younger people to the shop, both in terms of customers and volunteers, and it was a real confidence boost trying on the different high quality outfits that are on offer at the shop.”

Mayor of Poynton, Rebecca Horseman, who has become a regular visitor at the Headway shop since it opened in January, also turned out to show her support of the charity at the fashion event.

Shop Manager and Chloe’s mother, Sue Watkins, said: “Chloe and Jessica both did a fantastic job modelling our new array of generous donations.

“We have had a phenomenal response to our evening wear appeal, including everything from stunning gowns to men’s tuxedoes. The icing on the cake would be for someone to donate a wedding dress for us to sell and display in the shop window.

“Brain injury can devastate every area of a person’s daily life, and we rely heavily upon the continued support of our volunteers, customers and generous donors to keep the shop running.

“Whether you are a survivor of brain injury, know someone who has been affected by brain injury or just want to support a good cause in your free time – everyone is welcome to come along and find out more about Headway.
