Poynton resident Joyce Clark celebrated her 100th birthday in style on March 10th with a telegram from the Queen. Born in Hull in 1921, Joyce spent part of her early years in Belgium before moving back to England.
She moved with her husband Frank and family to Bramhall in the 1960s where she was an active member of the local Methodist church. She helped with the church playgroup and worked in its thrift shop every Monday. She moved to Poynton over 15 years ago.
Joyce and Frank had six children and Joyce now has 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, with two more great grandkids on the way this year.
What’s her secret to a long life? Joyce puts it down to keeping active. “I’ve never learned to drive, I had a bicycle into my 80s and I enjoyed playing bowls with the church.” Her philosophy on life is “to take every day as it comes.” Joyce’s daughter Heather says “The most important thing to mum is her family. Nothing is too much trouble and our house was always entertaining and such fun. She’s an inspiration to us all.”
