Work on the Poynton Relief Road is going well. The site preparation jobs are now complete, and work has started on building the underpass that will take the new road under Chester Road. This will include piling, and temporary traffic lights on Chester Road until early February.

Poynton Conservatives are pleased work is underway, but this should have been finished 20 years ago – Tony Blair’s government in 1997 cancelled every road scheme in Cheshire. Only the election of a Conservative government in 2010 allowed planning work to start again and due to new environmental rules, the whole scheme had to be restarted from scratch.

Cheshire East is overseeing the work – this was approved and championed by the former Conservative administration there. For further details, see the main contractor’s website:
