The Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band performed a hugely popular ‘Night at the Movies’ concert at the Hazel Grove Baptist Church. Their show opened with the theme tune to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and rounded off with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The concert raised £1,000 for Stockport Foodbank, a local charity based in five locations around Stockport for which demand is expected to significantly increase as Universal Credit is rolled out in the area.
Nigel Tedford, Project Manager at Stockport Foodbank, said:
‘On behalf of everyone at Stockport Foodbank may I thank everyone who was involved in making this evening such a success.  Without the band we wouldn’t have had brilliant music to listen to, without our guests the evening wouldn’t have raised such a magnificent amount for the Foodbank and without the support of the Vernon Building society, the evening wouldn’t have happened.’

Funding will be used to buy essential food and hygiene items to support those in need during the winter months. Vernon Building Society Director of Sales and Marketing Ian Keeling said: “The Night at the Movies concert demonstrated real community spirit as volunteers from the Baptist Church, the Vernon Brass Band and the Vernon Building Society created a special evening of entertainment for what was a significant crowd. The event has become an annual fixture which raises much needed funds for a critical local cause.”
