Local MP, David Rutley, visited Davenport Golf Club in Poynton to formally open the Clubhouse’s improved golfing and social facilities on 21st April.

In 2016 the Club was awarded £75,000 of grant funding by Sport England as part of the highly competitive “Inspired Facilities” Lottery Funding Programme. David actively supported the Club’s bid and the funding enabled the Club to implement its improvement plan and refurbish on site facilities; including the development of a new Community Meeting Room and an upgrade to existing male changing facilities. These improvements will help to retain existing members, while also helping to attract new people to the sport.

The new Community Meeting Room will also allow groups in the community to host golf events, meetings, special events, or small conferences at the Clubhouse. The room is able to accommodate 24 to 50 guests, with car parking in a convenient location, and is a great addition to the function rooms available at the Club. Local residents who are interested in golf membership, or the club’s new facilities, can obtain further information by contacting Keith Taylor, the Club’s Secretary on 01625 876851, or by visiting the Club’s website at www.davenportgolf.co.uk.

Speaking after the opening David said; “Davenport Golf Club always extends a warm welcome to both Club members and visitors. The Club is very community minded and so I was delighted to be able to support its bid to Sport England. It was an honour to open the new facilities, which will help the club be an even stronger asset in the community. I wish the Club continued success going forward.”
