It is interesting to compare the actions of Poynton Town Council (Conservative) with Labour run Crewe Town Council. All town councils are funded by a “precept”, which forms part of the total Council Tax paid by local residents. While Poynton Town Council’s precept for 2020/21 will increase by just over 4 per cent, Labour run Crewe have put up their precept by more than 24 per cent.

Both councils face similar costs for goods and staff wages, while inflation is low. Review of Crewe’s budget shows big increases for items such as “Administration”, “Payroll” and “Town Promotion”.
