Recently swimmers at Poynton based Amateur swimming club Poynton Dippers took part in their annual club championships. They had a record number of entries in club championships this year and it was a pleasure to see so many Dippers competing in all races from 20m Freestyle to 120m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley. Lots of personal best times were recorded and fun was had by all. Congratulations to all swimmers who took part.

Following this they also held their prestigious presentation evening attended by all swimmers and their families together with Mayor Sarah-Jane Gilmour and her husband Chris. Trophies and medals were presented by Head coach Andy Martin and Sarah-Jane Gilmour to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and finalist places with special trophies been awarded on the night to “Top girl and boy”. “Joining in medals” were also presented to all including the Mayor who commented: “Incredible achievements by all the swimmers; and another fabulous evening organised by the Committee and Volunteers that run the club”.  The presentation evening was supported by lots of local businesses who provided raffle prizes and both events were enjoyed by the swimmers and their families.

During the night a special life member award was presented to Andy Martin for his dedication and commitment to the club over a 10 year period. The club also announced the appointment of their new head coach, Alan Bamber who is a Level 2 Coach and Level 2 teacher. Alan has been with the club in a senior capacity for the last 3 years and adds a wealth of coaching and teaching expertise to the team.  The coaching team has been strengthened considerably over the last 12 months by the addition of 3 new poolside assistants, Chris Ormiston, Sarah Harriot and Lisa Zughaid. Congratulations also go to the following members of the team; Alistair Hunter (senior level 1 coach) and Reece Nolan (Coach and senior squad swimmer) who have both recently qualified as Level 2 swimming teachers.
