The Town Council would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2021 Civic Service Awards, which were presented by the Town Mayor, Cllr Mr Lee Podmore, at the Civic Reception on Sunday 26th September 2021. This followed the Civic Service held at St George’s Church.

Sylvia Walker was not able to attend the ceremony so will be presented with her award on a future occasion.

The Civic Service Awards were presented in recognition of a sustained and significant contribution to the community to:

Wendy Daly: For her role in forming the Flood Action Group, and her continued efforts of pushing the relevant authorities to review and introduce measures to protect residents from flooding in Poynton.

Jenny Kelly: For her hard work and ongoing contributions throughout lockdown as leader of 11th Poynton Brownies.

Mark Johnson: Who has shown hard work, dedication and commitment to Scouting in Poynton.

Rosie Deverell: Who founded ‘Poynton Rocks’ and ‘Rainbow Trails with Rosie’, both of which provided local children and their families with much needed outdoor fun and creativity during lockdown.

Sylvia Walker: For her active involvement with Poynton In Bloom.

Gill Bird and Carolyn Watson: On behalf of the many volunteers who supported the Covid-19 vaccination clinics. The volunteers provided a friendly face, answered questions and ensured social distancing, offered assurance and support to anxious patients, cleaned chairs and helped with the observation of patients post vaccination.

The Youth Civic Awards are awarded to under 18’s in recognition of having shown leadership, initiative, enthusiasm and commitment to a worthwhile cause, of benefit to their peer group and/ or the wider community to:

Alice Ellarby: For her sustained volunteer involvement helping to coach younger children in dance and gymnastics.
